Littlewoods Bingo Wins Over A Complaint About Their Advertisements

The new Television advertisement that Littlewoods Bingo goes like this: two ladies were talking about online bingo by chatting in the computer. One lady, by the name of Leanne, asked her friend Kate what she has won. Her friend Kate answered with £500, again! Now apparently, someone complained that this online bingo advertisement was misleading to the viewers. The complainant mentioned that it is implying that players can win huge amounts of cash on several occasions. The complainant protests that the advertisement was encouraging players irresponsible gambling. It was like fooling the people that when you play on their bingo network, you can win often and win big prizes at that.
Nevertheless, the board handling complaints, ASA, did not agree with the complainant. ASA was in favour of the online bingo network instead. The group did not believe that the ad was misleading. After all, there are really lucky people who have one more than once at online bingo. So what could be wrong with such an ad?
It was Equinox Film & TV Producers based in Manchester, who created the advertisement. ASA was convinced that Littlewoods Bingo only meant to provide humour into their advertisement. The online bingo network claimed that the advertisement was merely a genuine reflection of their website.
According to them, there were no underlying implications. Needless to say, perhaps online bingo companies should be more careful when creating ads for their companies. After all, it would just be a waste of money to invest on an advertisement that cannot be shown on air. Good thing Littlewoods Bingo got off the hook.
